Beyond Meat is Slinging Meatballs

The multi-billion dollar company that is Beyond Meat has rolled out a new plant-based product: Meatballs sold by the dozen.

The uncooked orbs are pre-seasoned with Italian spices and made from peas, mung beans, brown rice and other ingredients—much the same as the company’s faux beef and sausage. They carry 30 percent less saturated fat compared to actual beef.

Early online reviews have been generally favorable from consumers who purchased the meatballs from outlets such as Whole Foods, Kroger, Sprouts, Stop & Shop, and Albertson’s. (Distribution to other major stores such as WalMart, Wegman’s and more will begin in early October.)

Several buyers reported excellent results after browning the balls in a skillet, per the package instructions, and then simmering them for up to an hour in marinara sauce. Others say they performed well in Swedish meatball recipes.

A package of 12 retails for $6.99.
