The Hash Star

Bio

The Hash Star was founded in the summer of 2020 by Frank Sabatini Jr., who has covered the San Diego culinary scene for nearly three decades for a lengthy list of newspapers, magazines and web sites.

He served as San Diego food editor for NBC’s The Feast; maintained weekly and biweekly restaurant-review columns for San Diego Community Newspaper Group and San Diego Community News Network; and penned numerous feature articles for Pacific Magazine and Umbrella Media.

A former city desk staffer for The San Diego Tribune, he is also the author of Secret San Diego, an offbeat guide book published in 2003 by Canadian publishing house, ECW Press.

Originally from Buffalo, N.Y., he holds a giant place in his heart for that city’s chicken wings, Greek-style breakfasts, and well-done pizzas flaunting curly pepperoni.

“I manage to scarf down those items within 24 hours of arriving there for visits,” he admits. “Where San Diego excels in Mexican and Pan Asian cuisine, it leaves me in a perpertual wanting state for back-East grub–even after covering Southern California’s vibrant culinary landscape for many years.”
