Brazilian coffee has found its way into Coca-Cola, which began debuting “Coca-Cola With Coffee” several months ago in Italy, Turkey, Japan and Brazil. Now it is America’s turn to experience the taste of cola mingled with rich overtones of java—not to mention an unmistakable jolt from 69 milligrams of caffeine per 12-ounce can.
The product is being promoted as an improved iteration of Coca-Cola Blak, which was introduced in 2016 with less coffee in the recipe. Sales for it were weak, and the soda was discontinued within two years.
Early reviews among Coca-Cola fans on social media have been generally favorable, with some terming the product as actual “cold brew.” Adjectives such as “smooth,” “robust” and “refreshing” are common in their tasting notes.
Conversely, some are pointing out an undesirable aftertaste stemming from sucralose and acesulfame potassium. The two artificial sweeteners combine with 18 grams of real sugar, which may or may not explain the staying power of the fizzy heads when poured into glasses.
The product comes in three flavors: Dark blend; vanilla; and caramel. They’re appearing gradually in major grocery stores as well as Walmart, Target and Amazon.
I tried this (or something similar) in Madrid last year when they were test marketing it there. Didn’t like it at all. I love coffee but don’t really drink soda. The aftertaste was not good.
I all too often have a sweet tooth and this sounds intriguing. I NEED to try all three flavors. It just has to be better than their Cherry favored drinks.
