The Hash Star

Flavor Pairings that Jive

Product: Activia Dairy-Free Yogurt

Description: With traditional yogurt sales falling by about 3 percent over the last year, Activia surmised that our desire to reduce dairy intake might lead us to these craftily flavored almond-milk yogurts. Shown above are two from the non-dairy line: Vanilla-cinnamon and peach-hibiscus, each in 5.2-ounce servings.

Preparation summary: Ready to eat from the fridge

High points: If you’re lactose-intolerant, dig in. And behold the love dance between sensual vanilla and fragrant cinnamon; and how the flavor of juicy peach turns brighter from faint wisps of hibiscus. Also, don’t ignore the fact that you’ve fed your gut billions of live cultures that go into immediate combat with “bad bacteria.”

Low points: Activia’s marketers will tell you the yogurt is a thick and creamy option to full-fat dairy yogurt. It isn’t. This is thinner, less silky, and doesn’t leave residual flavor on your tongue for very long. But that shouldn’t stop you from buying it.
