Product: Best Foods Vegan Dressing & Spread
Specs: A plant-based faux mayonnaise made with sunflower oil, lemon juice, sugar, salt, vinegar and a few natural preservatives. It contains 70 calories and 8 grams of fat per tablespoon.
Preparation summary: Ready to use
High points: None
Low points: Imagine whisking together melted plastic, dust from old books, and stale oil. That’s what this eggless, fake mayo tasted like in a few different applications, including a ham sandwich that would have otherwise been completely devoured.
Make no mistake. In our fleeting moments of veganism there are many products we find enjoyable. But something is seriously amiss here. Perhaps the version using soybean oil instead of sunflower oil tastes better. The company produces both, although our requests to find out which dominates the factory line went unanswered.
You’ll find far better alternatives in brands such as Vegenaise, Follow Your Heart, Primal Kitchen, and Chosen Foods.
Average retail price: $5.69
Availability: Major grocery stores and Amazon
I always hated Mayo and wouldn’t be one bit interested in a vegan option. Stick to dijonnaise
