Making Nice with Disgruntled Fans

On a scale of bland-to-spicy, Taco Bell’s upcoming promotion commemorating National Taco Day on Oct. 4 ranks as “mild.”

Perhaps in an effort to distract us from the dozen or so items that Taco Bell axed from its menu since the start of the pandemic, the company is hoping to beef up sales with something called the “Taco Gifter.”

Starting this Sunday, consumers can hop onto the web site or download the Taco Bell app to electronically send tacos to friends and family members—or enemies if they’re health-food junkies. Users pay for the items online and enter the recipient’s name and other info along with an optional personalized message. An e-gift card is then sent out.

The nationwide service will be permanent after its introduction. In addition, the first 10,000 people to send a taco to someone via the new system will receive…drum roll…a $2 e-certificate for a free taco for themselves.

Although as Twitter user @PineappleFlying stated in response to Taco Bell’s announcement of the promotion: “Bring the potatoes back and then we’ll talk.”
