Nuts for Grape Nuts

The oddly popular cereal that resembles gravel even after it sits in milk for a while pulled an unexpected disappearing act late last year. Fans of the product ever since have come out in droves on social media expressing their dismay and curiosity.

For at least three months major grocery stores across the nation were impacted by a Grape Nuts shortage. When supplies occasionally trickled onto shelves at chains such as Kroger and Wegmans, they’d sell out swiftly and sometimes end up on eBay for quadruple the price.

But normalcy is about to be restored.

Post Consumer Brands issued an apology recently for the lag in production, which it attributed to greater demand due to the pandemic. Not only are supplies expected to return fully by the end of this month, but the company is holding a contest that will award 10 consumers free Grape Nuts for a year. (Secure your dental work if you’re one of the lucky winners.)

Also, by simply entering the contest, fans will receive a coupon for $1.50 off the cereal, which was invented by the C.W. Post Company in 1897.

Enter the sweepstakes by clicking here. The deadline is March 19.

  1. Wow, 1897?! Those pebbles (not fruity) have been around a loooong time. Oddly comforting to know they’re back, though!
