Product: Savory Chicken Breakfast Sausage

Description: Hormone and nitrate-free chicken sausages made with unspecified poultry sections, mild measures of seasonings, and maple sugar. The precooked product is from Whole Foods’ 365 Everyday Value line.

Preparation summary: Cover sausages with a paper towel and microwave on 50 percent power between 70 seconds and 5 minutes, depending on the number links. Or heat in a skillet on medium with 1/3 cup of water for 6-7 minutes.

High points: None, except that the chickens are supposedly raised on vegetarian feed. But so what. That is their common diet in just about every filthy, overcrowded coop in the country.

Low points: The flavor of boiled chicken pervaded over what little sage and other spices exist. We tried both cooking methods. The microwave resulted in a rubbery, off-putting texture while the skillet method incited memories of bad cafeteria food. Stick to your turkey, beef or pork breakfast links.
