Product: Twizzlers Mystery Flavor
Specs: Sold in one-pound packages, these mystery-flavored purple Twizzlers were recently introduced by The Hershey Company, which will reveal the secret this summer on social media. The promotion challenges consumers to guess the flavor but offers no prizes or awards for those who get it right.
High points: Because they’re new, the licorice was soft and chewy rather than warehouse-stale. A potent aroma of grape candy permeated the room upon opening the package. And that’s precisely the flavor we first detected. Then came hints of blackberry and dark cherry. To a fainter degree the taste of cola emerged. If you like Twizzlers’ classic strawberry or cherry flavors, you’ll likely dig these.
Low points: Don’t bother reading the ingredient list for clues because there are none. The only thing you’ll get is a reality check of all the bad and artificial components comprising the candy: corn syrup, palm oil, artificial flavor, food dyes, etc.
Average retail price: $2.39
Availability: Major grocery and drug stores
I’m a big twizzler fan and all the flavors you mentioned sound delicious!! The world would be boring without artificial components ….
A few years ago, companies started making a dark blue version of their products; I could only surmise they got some kind of bulk discount on vats of blackberry/blueberry chemical flavor or something. This looks like they took all the leftovers from that experiment and then added some extra grape flavor left over from the mid-20th century. So I’m going to say this is “Ancient Blue” flavor.
I’m sure I will love it. If it’s Twizzler’s, it’s going to be good.
Clever and fun! I however only like black licorice so I will not partake
