Product: Whisps
Description: Baked cheese crisps made with “wheel cheese” and available in eight flavors. The product is inspired by a food common in northeastern Italy called frico, which are fried pieces of Parmesan or Romano used as soup and salad toppers.
Preparation summary: Ready to eat
High points: Based on trying the tomato-basil and Asiago-pepper jack flavors, the product line is off to a good start in our books. Aside from the tangy and nutty flavors baked cheese offers, the other ingredients rang through nicely. A single coin packs the punch of a decent-size chunk of strong, hard cheese.
Other flavors include Parmesan, bacon BBQ, cheddar, Ranch, and nacho. All are lactose-free.
Low points: Both flavors we tried were a little saltier than expected. So go easy.
Average Retail Price: $3.99 per 2.12-ounce bag.
Availability: Most major grocery chains, including Costco, Publix, Sam’s Club, Target, Walmart and more. Whisps are also available online through Amazon and Thrive Market.
