Chipotle Tries Its Hands at Brisket

The smoked brisket now available at Chipotle outlets nationwide and in Canada takes on a bouquet of ingredients for achieving a bold, Mexican flair.

Smoky brisket landed temporarily on the menu Sept. 23

After two years in development, the meat is accented with more than a dozen ingredients and spices that include onions, fresh garlic, three types of chili peppers, coriander, organic brown sugar and more.

The company touts the new protein option as “responsibly raised beef.” It is smoked, hand-chopped, char-grilled, and then finished off with a sauce containing some of the aforementioned components. Customers can opt for the brisket in burritos, tacos, quesadillas or bowls.

“This isn’t your standard brisket experience,” said Chipotle’s chief marketing officer, Chris Brandt.

Arriving on the heels of the company’s recently introduced cilantro-lime cauliflower rice, the brisket was consistently requested by customers and was test-marketed last year in Cincinnati and Sacramento with much success. Company reps say it will stick around until November or December.

As a promotion, Chipotle is offering free delivery on smoked brisket orders via the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com, and Chipotle.ca from Sept. 27 through Oct. 3.
