News From Beyond Meat

What looked like chicken but didn’t taste like it marked the 2019 discontinuation of Beyond Meat’s plant-based chicken strips. A year later, the company landed a contract with KFC, which test-marketed its vegan chicken nuggets in select cities.

But those didn’t fly too well either, as they’re no longer available at several locations we checked—nor do they appear anymore on KFC’s website.

So it was back to the drawing board for Beyond Meat, which is expected to roll out its re-engineered faux chicken sometime this summer. The company remains tight-lipped about the new formula, although we know that it uses things like potato starch, mung beans, peas, brown rice, and cocoa butter in other mock meats it produces.

Hitting stores now

Meanwhile, the company released this week its new “3.0 burger” to grocery stores nationwide. It is promoted as tasting “even better” than the original Beyond Meat burgers, with claims the “beef” is juicier and meatier tasting. You can buy them in two or four-packs for around $6.99 and $11.99 respectively.
