Pride Through Cereal

What you’re not taught in school about LGBTQ history, which amounts to just about everything on the subject, you might learn from Kellogg’s through its latest awareness-raising venture.

As the maker of many leading cereals, the company has teamed up with GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) to create a rainbow-themed cereal named Together With Pride.

The collaboration spotlights June as Pride month, which beckons to the 1969 riots in New York’s Greenwich Village. The area is where patrons and supporters of The Stonewall Inn protested chronic police raids of LGBTQ establishments.

The colorful limited-edition cereal features heart-shaped pieces artificially flavored to taste like various fruits. Though the mishmash may translate to generic sugary cereal for some, Kellogg’s will donate $3 from every purchase to GLAAD.

Together With Pride retails for about $4 per 7.8-ounce box. It’s available at most major grocery stores.

Note: Kellogg’s entered into a similar partnership with GLAAD two years ago for a Pride-themed cereal called All Together. It was available only briefly in New York City and raised $50,000 for the cause.

  1. Very clever, cute idea. I like it and will try a box. Although not much of a cereal person, I am partial to fruity, sweet stuff.
